Two PFPA activists detained in Azerbaijan

Members of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) have reported the detention of its two activists Fuad Akhmedli and Gadim Bekirov. Till present, the reasons for their detention have not been reported.

Both activists were detained on August 18. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent at the press service of the Azerbaijan PFPA.

Fuad Akhmedli, the leader of the Khatai Office of the Youth Committee of the PFPA, was detained by agents of the State Security Service. Some books were seized during a search of his apartment, reports the PFPA members.

"In the evening of Thursday, the father of Fuad Akhmedli was called by a state-appointed advocate. He has said that Fuad Akhmedli was detained as a suspect for 48 hours. The advocate did not inform the Fuad Akhmedli's father of the charges against his son," reports the PFPA's press service.

Gadim Bakirov, an activist of the Surakhani District Office of the PFPA, was detained by the local police. "At first, the police detained a brother of Gadim Bekirov to force him to surrender. After Gadim Bakirov had come to the police station, his brother was released," report the PFPA members.
