Court upholds ban on Ismayilova to leave Azerbaijan

The Baku Court of Appeal (CoA) has dismissed the complaint lodged by journalist Khadija Ismayilova against the court judgement, prohibiting her to leave Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 28 the Binagadi District Court did not allow Khadija Ismayilova, who is serving her conditional sentence, to temporarily leave Azerbaijan for taking part in activities at invitations of the PACE, OSCE and US Congress, as well as to accompany her mother to a medical examination. The consideration of the journalist's appeal complaint was scheduled for August 15.

Today, the CoA has dismissed the Ismayilova's complaint, the journalist herself has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Khadija Ismayilova has stated that she intends to appeal against this judgement. "Authorities wouldn't step back; they run the country not by laws, but by some 'concepts'; the restriction of my rights is illegal. We'll file an appeal to the Supreme Court, and then to the European Court of Human Rights. Maybe after the latter makes its decision, they (the authorities) will realize the illegality of their actions," she said.
