Turkey denies Chechen rebels' training on Cyprus
Justice Minister of the Greek part of Cyprus Doros Theodorou stated in his interview with the Greek newspaper Phiieieftheros last weekend that rebels who participated in the attack on the school in Beslan had received training on the Turkish part of Cyprus.
The Caucasian Knot correspondent was told in the Turkish Embassy to Russia that President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Rauf Denktas is indignant about Doros Theodorou's statement. "Greek Cypriotes bring such ungrounded accusations and lie shamelessly from time to time. I condemn capture and murder of people," he said in an address. According to the Turkish Embassy, TRNC Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat called Doros Theodorou's accusations "paranoia" and "nonsense" and demanded that information about the terrorists whose existence was announced by Greek Cypriotes should be immediately delivered to the Turkish authorities. Mr Talat paid attention to the fact that newspapers and politicians in the Greek part of Cyprus had issued such ungrounded statements before, claiming, for instance, that Al Qaeda had plans of creating a nuclear bomb in the TRNC. The Prime Minister asserts there is no terrorism in the country and there cannot be.
