Prosecutor's Office upholds decision on Kadyrov Bridge

There were no violations in naming one of Saint Petersburg bridges after Akhmat Kadyrov, the city prosecutor's office has stated. Petersburg MPs treat this position unjustified.

On May 30, Saint Petersburg's Toponymic Commission voted by the majority of two votes for naming the anonymous bridge over the Dudergof canal in favour of Akhmat Kadyrov. This decision was criticized by culture figures; and protests were held in the city. However, on June 16, Georgy Poltavchenko, the Governor of Saint Petersburg, signed a decree on naming the bridge after A. Kadyrov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June, four city MPs asked the prosecutor's office to check the legality of the decision on Kadyrov Bridge. The decision to name the bridge after Akhmat Kadyrov was made before the completion of the necessary examinations, Maxim Reznik and Olga Galkina, the MPs of the city's Legislative Assembly, and Boris Vishnevsky and Alexander Kobrinsky, members of the "Yabloko" Party faction there, stated in their appeals to the local prosecutor's office.

However, the office found no violations of anti-corruption legislation in the decision to award the name of Akhmat Kadyrov to the bridge over the DudergofCanal in Saint   Petersburg. This was announced today by the local MP Boris Vishnevsky on his page on the Facebook.

"Alexander Kobrinsky and I received answers from the prosecutor's office on 'KadyrovBridge'. It believes that the city administration did everything right; I don't think so. There will be no KadyrovBridge in our city; and the decision, contrary to bureaucrats' opinion, will be made by townspeople at the referendum, which we will strive for," the MP wrote.
