Chechen MIA announces detention of 21 suspected militants

From January to June 2016, 12 persons were detained in Chechnya, who are considered to be former militants, and nine local residents, accused of helping the members of the underground. These data were announced at the sitting of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) on July 27 in Grozny.

"In the first six months of this year, 21 former members of the underground and their helpers were detained and persuaded to surrender; besides, we prevented the departure of eight people to Syria, where they intended to join the 'Islamic State' (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia," said a source from the Chechen police.

An evidence of the person, who got into the IS and managed to escape, were presented by the "Caucasian Knot" in the interview named "A Journey to the IS and Back". According to his story, natives of Chechnya often occupy key positions of the terrorist organization.

According to the Chechen MIA, in the first half of 2016, two persons, treated as members of militant groupings, were killed. According to a police source, they were Shamil Djanaraliev and Akhmed Inalov, residents of Grozny. They were killed on May 9, when committing a terror act at the checkpoint in the outskirts of the village of Alkhan-Kala. The former blew himself up, and the latter was shot dead by policemen. According to law enforcers, Djanaraliev has earlier tried to go to war in Syria.
