Police report on 64 detainees in Yerevan

An activist from the number of those detained last night in Khorenatsi Street has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon. The other 63 persons were released, reports the Armenian police.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that last night, policemen were massively detaining supporters of the members of the opposition movement "Constituent Parliament", who seized the police regiment building in Yerevan. About 30 people were brought to the police stations.

Law enforcers have detained 64 people. Of them, 63 were released, and one was arrested. The law enforcers found in his pocket a home-transformed drum revolver, explains the press service of the Armenian police.

Alek Enigomshyan, a member of the "Constituent Parliament", has claimed that the revolver "was planted by the police" to a supporter of the group "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun). Alek Enigomshyan has also noted that "the whereabouts of Levon Barsegyan, the leader of the Gyumri Club of Journalists, is still unknown."

According to Joseph Linder, the president of the international counter-terrorism association, in Yerevan, the taking of hostages has not yet ended in an assault of the building or voluntary surrender of the rebels, since "not external terrorism, but internal political problems are in question."

Joseph Linder suggests that the authorities and the opposition "will continue to carry out negotiations till the very end", since any forceful solution to the problem will only result in escalation of violence, the Russian "National News Service" reports.
