FIDH treats as unlawful Azerbaijan's actions during escalation of Karabakh conflict

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) has recognized contradicting the law the actions of the Azerbaijani military men against civilians and soldiers of Nagorno-Karabakh during the April escalation of the conflict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the ceasefire was announced in the Karabakh conflict zone on April 5, after a four-day escalation of the situation, during which the parties to the conflict used tanks, multiple rocket launchers, and aircrafts. After April 5, the parties to the conflict regularly accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.

The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) has made a statement that under the international law, an attack on civilians and civilian objects is unlawful.

"The international humanitarian law condemns abuse of bodies of deceased people and their desecration. Furthermore, such inhuman treatment is prohibited by national and international laws, since it incites ethnic hatred and contributes to further escalation of conflict," states the document published on the FIDH's website.

"Finally, at least one international human rights organization has called the things by their proper names. We should use that fact and seek opinions from others until the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) pronounces its legal assessment," wrote on her Facebook page Marina Grigoryan, a reporter of the edition "Voice of Armenia" and the head of the project "Ordinary Genocide".

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
