"Legal Initiative" insists on investigation into kidnapping of Ingush resident

The investigation into the case on the kidnapping of Abu Bakar Tsechoev in 2012 should be resumed after the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) on recognizing the violation of the rights of his family members. This was stated by Olga Gnezdilova, a lawyer of the human rights organization "Legal Initiative".

According to the human rights organization "Legal Initiative for Russia" (SRJI), on June 21, 2016, the ECtHR pronounced the decision in the case of the kidnapping of Abu Bakar Tsechoev, a resident of Ingushetia, in 2012. The ECtHR obliged the Russian authorities to pay 20,000 euros to relatives of Abu Bakar Tsechoev.

On March 22, 2012, Abu Bakar Tsechoev was kidnapped by armed men in camouflage uniform and masks, and his relatives were unable to locate him. Meanwhile, according to eyewitnesses, kidnappers of Abu Bakar Tsechoev drove him away in the direction of Chechnya and easily passed the checkpoint at the border of Chechnya and Ingushetia, the SRJI's release reports.

"The ECtHR has ruled out that the government had failed to conduct an effective investigation and obliged the Russian authorities to pay compensation to the relatives of Abu Bakar Tsechoev in the amount of 20,000 euros. Besides, Russia should resume the investigation into the criminal case and identify the persons responsible for the disappearance of the man," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Olga Gnezdilova, a lawyer of the project "Legal Initiative for Russia".

Meanwhile, she has expressed her confidence that "the money will be paid to family members of Abu Bakar Tsechoev." "According to our practice, the compensations pronounced by the ECtHR are always paid," said Olga Gnezdilova.
