Dagestani woman convicted for attempt to join Syrian militants

The Kaspiysk City Court has sentenced a local woman Umukusum Asgedinova to five years in prison on charges of an attempt to participation in an illegal armed formation (IAF) in Syria.

As reported by Dalgat Rasulov, the deputy prosecutor of Kaspiysk, on August 16, 2015, Asgedinova flew to Istanbul (Turkey) from the "Vnukovo" Airport in Moscow, intending to cross the Syrian border and join militants. However, she was detained at the airport of Istanbul and taken to the police station of the city of Gaziantep; and on April 8, 2016, she was deported to Russia, the "Interfax" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Buynaksk City Court sentenced Ali Takhnaev, a local resident, to six years in prison, after finding him guilty of intent to participate in IAFs abroad, illegal arms dealing trafficking and possession of narcotic drugs.
