Georgia and Abkhazia exchange materials on murder in Khurcha

The murder of a citizen of Georgia Giga Otkhozoriya in the Zugdidi District was the main topic of the meeting of the authorities of Georgia and Abkhazia, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the Monitoring Mission of the European Union (MMEU) in Georgia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 19, in the village Khurcha, Giga Othozoriya, a resident of the Gali District of Abkhazia, was shot dead. With gunshot wounds, he was taken to the Zugdidi hospital, where he died. The Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) had blamed Russia for the incident; but Moscow denied any involvement of Russian border guards in Otkhozoriya's murder. On May 27, Irakli Shotadze, the Georgia's Chief Prosecutor, said that the Abkhaz border guard Rashid Kandj-oglu, suspected of committing the killing, was declared wanted by the Interpol.

"The May 27 meeting within the framework of the IPRM (Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism) was dedicated to the fatal incident in Khurcha. The parties agreed to carry out the investigation and share information, using the hotline and other tools offered by the Monitoring Mission of the European Union," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the MMEU.

The Georgian and Abkhaz parties exchanged operative materials on Otkhozoriya's murder. In particular, Georgia handed over the video record of the incident, said the Georgia's MFA.
