Georgia appeals to Interpol in connection with killing on border with Abkhazia

The General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has appealed to the Interpol with a request to put on the wanted list an Abkhazian border guard, suspected of killing Giga Otkhozoriya, a citizen of Abkhazia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 19, Giga Otkhozoriya, a resident of the Gali District of Abkhazia, was killed in the near-border village of Khurcha of the Zugdidi District of Georgia. On May 20, the Abkhazian side opened a criminal case under Article "Murder" and voiced the version, according to which Giga Otkhozoriya himself attacked a border guard. However, the Georgian side insists on the border guard's fault and confirms that by the video record of the incident. On May 21, the Georgian law enforcers reported on the identification of the killer as Rashid Kandji-ogly, a staff member of the Abkhazian Border Guard Service.

The General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has appealed to the Interpol with a request to put the suspected Abkhazian border guard on the wanted list.

"I hope that the killer will be wanted under the red circular," Irakli Shotadze, Chief Prosecutor of Georgia, said at the funeral of Giga Otkhozoriya on May 26 as quoted by the "Satellite-Georgia".
