Turkey: Circassians intend to continue protests until withdrawal of charges against Adnan Khuade (+video)
The movement "Patriots of Circassia" calls on human rights organizations and the international community to pay attention to the violation of the rights of Adnan Khuade, a Circassian repatriate in Adygea. The activists have also announced their intention to continue the protests in Turkey until the full withdrawal of the charges against Adnan Khuade.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening of May 5, in Maikop, law enforcers detained Circassian activist Adnan Khuade, a repatriate from Turkey. On May 11, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Adygea reported that Adnan Khuade was subjected to the 15-day administrative arrest for driving a vehicle without driving licence. Later, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported that Adnan Khuade was suspected of bribing an official. On May 21, more than 100 people gathered for the protest action in front of the Russian Consulate General in Istanbul. They demanded to stop the prosecution of Adnan Khuade.
Erdinc Yunsalan, the speaker of the movement "Patriots of Circassia", has claimed that the current anniversary of the end of the Caucasian War is marked by the violation of the rights of Adnan Khuade, a Circassian repatriate in the Russian Federation.
"The Russian authorities have seriously violated the Adnan's rights. Adnan Khuade is an innocent victim of the ongoing illegal actions against Turkish citizens in Russia and, in general, the ongoing violation of freedom of thought and opinion," said Erdinc Yunsalan.
"Adnan is being prosecuted only because of the fact that he protects Circassians and human rights. And at present, he faces the charge, threatening with eight years of imprisonment. We demand to free Adnan Khuade from persecution. We will continue our protest actions until he is released," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Murat Karden, a co-founder of the movement "Patriots of Circassia".
