Advocate asks for examination in case of Baku activists

An examination of fingerprints on bags with narcotic drugs in the case of Bairam Mamedov and Giyas Ibragimov, who were detained after the appearance of graffiti on the monument to Geidar Aliev in Baku, will prove their innocence, the advocate believes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Giyas Ibragimov, a Facebook user, and Bairam Mamedov, an activist of the "Nida" movement, were detained in Baku on May 10 on charges of illegal drug dealing. The young people were detained in connection with the appearance of graffiti on the pedestal of the monument to Geidar Aliev in Baku, the "Nida" has stated. According to the defence, the defendants refused to plead guilty, stating that they gave their testimonies under torture.

Today, the advocate Elchin Sadygov has sent petitions to the Investigation and Inquiry Department of the Baku City Chief Police Office concerning the case of Mamedov and Ibragimov.

"We ask to examine the fingerprints on the plastic bags with narcotic drugs allegedly confiscated from the young people and in their homes," Elchin Sadygov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, the petitions ask to establish how many fingerprints are there on the bags, to how many people and exactly to whom they belong.

"Should our petitions be satisfied, it will be proved that these drugs have nothing to do with Mamedov and Ibragimov – they had been planted on them and into their homes by policemen," Mr Sadygov said.
