Two supporters of "Muslim Unity" detained in Southern Azerbaijan

In the Lankaran District of Azerbaijan, law enforcers detained local residents Gismet Isaev and Vugar Ismailov. According to law enforcers, they are supporters of the unregistered movement "Muslim Unity" and involved in a number of crimes, including incitement to civil disobedience.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Talekh Bagirzade, a Shiite theologian and the leader of the "Muslim Unity", is under arrest. He was among those detained on November 26, 2015, in Nardaran, during a special operation, which sparked mass riots.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan, Isaev and Ismailov call themselves Bagirzade's supporters. During the search of their houses and personal inspection, grenades, ammunition and religious books were found, the distribution of which is prohibited by the law.

On April 5, at the sitting of the GPO's Collegium, its head said that in the case of Bagirzade, in total, 68 members and supporters of the "Muslim Unity" were arrested.

The investigation is carried out with violations of procedural rules, said Elshan Gasanov, the head of the Monitoring Centre for Political Prisoners. According to his story, detainees' relatives often fear to disclose facts of pressure on detainees in order not to aggravate their situation.
