Polyudova's defence to appeal against judgement of the KTC at ECtHR

Darya Polyudova will leave for colony in three weeks, said her advocate Andrei Sabinin. According to his story, the defence intends to file a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 30, 2015, the Oktiabrsky District Court of Krasnodar found Darya Polyudova guilty of public calls for separatism and extremism and sentenced her to two years in a colony-settlement. Today, the Krasnodar Territorial Court (KTC) has rejected Polyudova's appeal against the sentence. Thus, the decision of the above District Court has entered into force.

According to Mr Sabinin, the defence plans to challenge the KTC's decision at the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation and the ECtHR. Perhaps, advocates will not appeal to the SC, because they understand that Polyudova will never be acquitted in Russia, he said.

"It was a cynical trial, far from being contentious," said the advocate.

Darya had hoped that the KTC would reduce her term by at least six months. She noted that to achieve that, she needed a support of civil society activists across the country, which she had not received.

She added that after serving her term she would resume her political struggle.
