Ramzan Kadyrov to be re-elected leader of Chechnya, local residents believe

On March 26, cities and towns of Chechnya held celebrations on the occasion of the Ramzan Kadyrov's appointment the acting leader of Chechnya. The cities and towns held concerts and festivities, during which officials stated that Ramzan Kadyrov would receive overwhelming support of the population at the upcoming September election.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 25, Vladimir Putin appointed Ramzan Kadyrov, whose term of office would expire on April 5, the acting leader of Chechnya.

The Kremlin's decision can be anticipated, and the question of Ramzan Kadyrov's reappointment as the leader of the republic can already be considered as a foregone conclusion. This opinion was expressed by a leader of a national NGO, who preferred to remain anonymous.

"For me personally, there is no doubt. Taking into account the way how in recent years our republic has held elections at various levels, I can say with confidence that Kadyrov will get at least 90-95 percent of the votes. To simulate a fair competition, a couple of 'duty' rivals will be chosen for him, for example, the Mayor of Grozny, who had earlier also played such a role. And the question will be closed," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an NGO leader, who preferred to remain anonymous.

According to him, in the coming years, residents of the republic should expect no changes for the better due to the reappointment of Ramzan Kadyrov.
