Resident of Karachay-Cherkessia sentenced for attempting to join militants in Syria

The North-Caucasian Military District Court has found Temirzhan Eslimesov, a 37-year-old resident of Karachay-Cherkessia, guilty of an attempt to join illegal armed formations (IAFs) in Syria and sentenced him to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony.

According to investigators, in February 2015, Temirzhan Eslimesov flew from Mineralnye Vody to Turkey to join the international terrorist organization "Imarat Kavkaz". From there, with the help of an accomplice, he got to the Syrian border, which he planned to cross illegally, reports the Investigating Department for Karachay-Cherkessia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The investigators suggest that Temirzhan Eslimesov wanted to get to the transfer point for further distribution to a training camp of militants, where he was to be trained in military affairs, rules for handling weapons, combat tactics, and terrorist methods of fighting.

The implementation of the Temirzhan Eslimesov's plan was prevented by staff members of the Turkish law enforcement bodies, who extradited him to the Russian secret services, reports the website of the ICRF's Department for Karachay-Cherkessia.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January, Musa Borlakov, a 21-year-old resident of Karachay-Cherkessia, was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a penal colony for his plans to join militants of the terrorist organization "Islamic State", banned in Russia.
