Four women from Karachay-Cherkessia suspected of involvement in IS

The law enforcement bodies have launched the investigation into the criminal cases against Dana Mukova, Alina Chotchaeva, Madina Batchaeva, and Marina Batchaeva, suspected of involvement in the activities of the "Islamic State" (IS), recognized as a terrorist organization.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to Yuri Chaika, General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, at present, the law enforcement authorities are engaged in the investigation into more than 1000 cases of involvement of citizens in terrorist groupings in Syria and Iraq.

According to investigators, during 2014-2015, the 23-year-old Dana Mukova, the 27-year-old Alina Chotchaeva, and Batchaeva sisters – the 25-year-old Madina and the 26-year-old Marina – used flights "Stavropol-Istanbul", "Makhachkala-Istanbul" and "Krasnodar-Istanbul" to leave Russia for Turkey. From there, they got to Syria.

In the Syrian city of Al-Raqqah, the women joined the "Jamaat Abu Hanifa", a structural unit of the IS, and at present, they are involved in its activities, the investigators believe.

The investigating authorities have information that the suspects work in a field hospital, where they provide medical aid to wounded terrorists, reports the website of the Investigating Department for Karachay-Cherkessia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

In Karachay-Cherkessia, the women never worked. They spent time mostly at home and did not commit any illegal acts, reports Sergey Shuvaev, an official from the ICRF's Department for Karachay-Cherkessia.
