Inmates of Makhachkala boarding school claim being ill-treated

The Prosecutor's Office has started to check the information about the ill-treatment of inmates of the children's boarding school for mentally retarded children "Zabota" (Care) in Makhachkala.

The check is started due to the appeal addressed by Rizvan Kurbanov, a State Duma deputy, to Yuri Chaika, General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, about the violations of the minors' rights. In his appeal, the State Duma deputy refers to more than 10,000 signatures collected in one of the social networks with a claim that at the boarding school, "during a long period of time, tutors commit illegal acts" against children.

The violations with testimonies of inmates and witnesses were reported by Zainab Isaeva, a member of tut.dagestan group in the social network, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Rizvan Kurbanov.

Earlier, the information about ill-treatment of children has been provided to agents of the national media by the former inmates of the boarding school. The newspaper "Novoye Delo" quotes Magomed Abdulaev as saying that there are no toilet bowls and pots at the boarding school and that they are replaced by buckets. He has also voiced the facts of the deaths of children at the boarding school.

Today, Zaripat Umakhanova, the principal of the boarding school for mentally retarded children "Care", has filed a letter of resignation on her own request, reports the Ministry of Labour and Social Development of Dagestan.
