In Nagorno-Karabakh, "Women's Resource Centre" criticizes police information on crimes against women

During the past year of 2015, the Police of Nagorno-Karabakh registered eight complaints filed by women about cases of violence of physical, psychological or sexual nature. This is stated in a report published on the official website of the Police of Nagorno-Karabakh. In particular, the report states that there was a slight increase in the number of crimes against women, including crimes against sexual integrity. However, the number of such crimes remains low.

"Given our traditions, many women and girls do not go to the police and do not even want to voice the problem, since they fear of condemnation from the society," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Gayane Ambartsumyan, the leader of the public organization "Women's Resource Centre".

On March 8, the "Women's Resource Centre" organized an action in Stepanakert.

"About ten activists of our organization have walked along the main avenue of Stepanakert and distributed to women the leaflets with an appeal to know better own rights and fight for them and with an explanation of what rights the women do have. Our activists have distributed more than 300 leaflets with appeal," said the leader of the "Women's Resource Centre".
