Nalchik: rally participants treat rehabilitation of Balkar people as incomplete

Till present, the right of the Balkar people to land has not yet been restored, and residents of Kabardino-Balkaria still face very difficult economic situation. This was reported by participants of the rally held in memory of the Balkars repressed in 1944.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Nalchik, the mourning events took place at the memorial to victims of political repression. People paid tribute to the memory of the Balkars who fell victim to the deportation.

According to the organizers, the rally was attended by about 400 people. The participants of the rally held a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the deportation and then laid flowers at the memorial to Kyazim Mechiev, a classic of the Balkar literature, who died in exile and was later reburied next to the memorial.

Ismail Khadjiev, a Nalchik pensioner, has claimed that till present, no complete rehabilitation of the Balkar people still has taken place.

"We have received certain amounts of money, but it is not enough. Meanwhile, the Balkar districts have still not been restored," the pensioner has said.

Magomed Gekkiev, a resident of Tyrnyauz, a poet and a translator, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the small number of people who came to the rally. He also believes that no complete rehabilitation of the Balkar people will ever take place.
