ECtHR finds Russia guilty of disappearance of six residents of Chechnya

The decision to pay out compensations in the amount of 369,000 euros was issued by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in two cases, concerning disappearance and death of six natives of Chechnya in 2000-2002.

The ECtHR has obliged Russia to pay 369,000 euros of compensation to all the applicants in two cases, writes the website of the "Legal Initiative for Russia", which represented the interests of the relatives of the three missing residents of Chechnya, namely: Islam Deniev, Muma Babuev and Ruslan Kagermanov.

The ECtHR has decided that in relation of all the three abductees, the right to life had been violated; and in all cases, no effective investigation had been carried out.

The ECtHR has concluded that relatives of Deniev, Babuev and Kagermanov were exposed to inhuman and degrading treatment due to the authorities' refusal to consider their complaints about the disappearances. It was also found that the applicants had no access to effective remedies from the applied violations.

According to the applicants, in all three cases, power agents were involved in disappearances.

In the case "Khachukaev versus Russia", the ECtHR has considered the circumstances of detention of Islam Deniev, who was last seen alive on November 24, 2000, at the checkpoint "Chernorechenskiy" on the Highway "Kavkaz" between Alkhan-Yurt and Grozny.

In the case "Nazyrova at al versus Russia", the ECtHR considered the circumstances of disappearance of Muma Babuev on August 30, 2002, and Ruslan Kagermanov on February 4, 2002.
