Yerevan: 20 persons march in support of Safaryan and Kyuregyan

Today, the participants of the action in support of Gevorg Safaryan and Yke Kyuregyan, who are on hunger strike in Nubarashen Prison, have appealed to the diplomatic corps asking to pay attention to the problem of political prisoners in Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 14 Gevorg Safaryan declared a hunger strike demanding to place him into a solitary cell. His protest was supported by his cellmate Yke Kyuregyan. On January 16, after being transferred to a solitary cell, Safaryan stopped his hunger strike, but on January 20 he resumed it, this time in protest against the decision of prison bosses to transfer him to a general cell. January 18, Kyuregyan announced his refusal to drink water (a "dry" hunger strike).

According to organizers, the today's march in support of Safaryan and Kyuregyan was about 20 persons strong. They started from Miasnikyan Square, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The protesters handed over letters to Embassies of France, Russia, USA, UK and Germany, as well as to the representative offices of the UN, EU and OSCE.

The authors of the letter urge diplomats to help to release Gevorg Safaryan and Yke Kyuregyan and fulfil the latter's demand to place him into a solitary cell, one of the organizers of the march told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
