Resident of Chechnya suspected of attempting to go to war in Syria

Chechnya has instituted a criminal case against minor Said-Magomed Dokhtukaev, suspected of an attempt to go to Syria to take part in the combat actions. He is also charged with public calls to terrorist activity.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a staff member of the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) that according to the preliminary information, the teenager had "expressed his intention to travel to Syria to take part in the combat actions on the side of the Islamists and publicly called for rendering assistance to terrorists."

According to the source, the actions of Said-Magomed Dokhtukaev fall under the definition of three Articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: Part 1 of Article 30 and Part 2 of Article 208 (preparation for joining an armed formation in the territory of a foreign country not stipulated by the laws of the relevant country, for purposes contrary to the interests of the Russian Federation), Article 205.1 (promotion of terrorist activity), and Article 205.2 (public calls to terrorist activity or public justification of terrorism).

"The punishment stipulated for commission of these crimes includes 5-10 years of imprisonment," notes the investigator. He has also added that the criminal case against Said-Magomed Dokhtukaev was instituted in last December.
