Resident of Karachay-Cherkessia sentenced for attempting to join IS
The North-Caucasus Military District Court has sentenced a resident of Karachay-Cherkessia to three years of imprisonment for plans to join IS militants in Syria.
According to the indictment, 21-year-old Musa Borlakov was a supporter of Wahhabism, and he had planned to take part in the combat actions in Syria in the ranks of side of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia. According to investigators, Musa Borlakov intended to travel to Turkey and from there to Syria. The defendant has made a confession during the investigation.
"The defendant was found guilty of attempted participation in activities of a terrorist organization (Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony," the "Interfax-South" quotes the press service of the FSB Department for the Krasnodar Territory as reporting. The maximum penalty stipulated under the above article is 10 years of imprisonment.
