HRC takes control over inquiry into teenager's death in Kuban colony

The investigation into the incident at the Belorechenskaya Educational Colony, where as a result of beatings one inmate died and six others were injured, has been brought under control of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) and the Human Rights Council (HRC) under Russian President.

Let us remind you that on November 25 the staff of the Belorechenskaya Educational Colony beat up the newcomers, using, in particular, special non-lethal weapons. Six teenagers were injured and one died. Seven employees of the colony have been detained.

Seven teenagers-victims of beatings were convoyed to the colony just on the eve of the incident, at night on 25 November, Eduard Idrisov, the chairman of the POC of the Krasnodar Territory, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the POC, it is not the first incident at the Belorechenskaya Educational Colony. In 2011, mass riots were recorded in this institution; and in 2013 – a mass brawl. However, the POC treats the current situation as unprecedented.

"It's just lawlessness. There were cases of beatings in Krasnodar colonies, but we can't recall anything of the sort. The POC of the Krasnodar Territory will do everything to find and punish the perpetrators," said Eduard Idrisov.
