In Elista, law enforcers detain person involved in case of prisoner's death

In Kalmykia, the investigating authorities have reported on the detention of a suspect in the case of the death of prisoner Dmitry Batyrev at the Elista penal colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening of November 20, in the territory of the penitentiary institution in Kalmykia, a body of a 28-year-old man with signs of violent death was found. Investigators reported on detection of numerous injuries on the man's head, body, and extremities. Officials from the Department for Kalmykia of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) have claimed that physical force and special means were used against Dmitry Batyrev to prevent illegal acts. The investigating authorities have initiated a criminal case on the fact of the Dmitry Batyrev's death.

"One of the suspects has been detained," reports the website of the Investigating Department for Kalmykia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

Earlier, the human rights defenders reported on the mass hunger strike of prisoners of the penal colony IK-1. Officials from the FSIN Department for Kalmykia have not confirmed the information about the hunger strike.

Till present, no comments from the detainee or his representatives are available.
