In Azerbaijan, "ReAl" decides to challenge election outcomes

Members of the movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) have claimed that the parliamentary elections held on November 1 were falsified. They have announced their intention to challenge the outcome of the elections. Together with the movement "Nida" and the "Musavat" Party, the movement "ReAl" calls on to hold new elections in 2016 on the basis of the reformed electoral law.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 1, Azerbaijan held voting at the parliamentary elections. According to the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC), the turnout reached 55% at the elections. The NGO "Institute for Democratic Initiatives" (IDI), which held the monitoring at the elections, reported that the real turnout stood at 25.52% and that serious violations were recorded.

According to the preliminary information of the CEC, following the outcome of the elections, the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan" gains 71 seats at the parliament.

Natiq Jafarli, Executive Secretary of the oppositional movement "ReAl", believes that the parliamentary elections were falsified, including the elections at 10 electoral districts, where candidates from the "ReAl" were nominated. Natiq Jafarli has explained that he talked about ballot stuffing, voting of people, not enlisted as voters of the certain electoral precincts, and distortions of the information in the records of the voting results.

The "ReAl" activist has also reported on "multiple overstatements" of the information on the turnout at the elections "in order to falsify the results in favour of the candidates supported by the authorities."
