Native of Dagestan, suspected of recruitment for IS, arrested in Berlin
The Imam of a mosque, arrested in Berlin, is accused of supporting terrorist activities and recruitment of young people, mainly from Chechnya, to take part in the combat actions in Syria in the ranks of the "Islamic State" (IS), recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia.
According to a source in the Prosecutor's Office of Berlin, the detained man is Moabit Murat A., a native of Dagestan, the 30-year-old Imam of a mosque in one of the Berlin districts. He is charged with supporting terrorist activities and recruitment of young people, mostly of Chechen origin, who visited his mosque, and of young people, who used social networks, to send them to Syria to take part in the combat actions in the ranks of the "Islamic State" (IS).
Sergey Belyaev, Press Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Germany, has stated that the arrested man did not address the Russian Embassy.
