Makhachkala resident Omar Magomedov subjected to torture, his relatives claim

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has been contacted by relatives of Omar Magomedov, a resident of Makhachkala. They claimed he was tortured and beaten by law enforcers and asked for help.

In her appeal, Zagra Goshtadu, the mother of the detainee, states that on September 28, people in camouflage and masks searched the Omar's car, and in the course of the search, they allegedly found a grenade, explosive substances and a plastic bag with certain substance, which they called "a spice".

According to the Omar Magomedov's relatives, then, Omar was brought to the Soviet ROVD (District Interior Division). The detainee's relatives believe that "the prohibited items were planted on him." The Omar Magomedov's relatives hired two lawyers: Elena Denisenko and Kurban Yusupov.

"Kurban Yusupov met his client at the police station. Omar Magomedov said that after his detention, he was brought to an unknown place with a plastic bag on his head. Then, he was tortured with electric current and beaten. They demanded from him to confess to possession of the prohibited items and aiding and abetting militants," notes the press release of the HRC "Memorial".

The report of the HRC "Memorial" emphasizes that today, the human rights defenders have sent appeals to the Prosecutor's Office of the Soviet District and the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan "with a request to check the facts of the use of violence against Omar Magomedov, and, if confirmed, to take measures of prosecutor's response."
