In Astrakhan, activists urge to release Nadezhda Savchenko

On September 27, in Astrakhan, five activists joined the international campaign in support of Nadezhda Savchenko and held an action with an appeal to release the Ukrainian aviator.

Nadezhda Savchenko is accused of involvement in the killing of two staff members of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (known as VGTRK) near Lugansk and illegal border crossing. The defence insists on her innocence. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has included Nadezhda Savchenko in the list of persons recognized as political prisoners.

"I believe Savchenko is innocent; she is illegally arrested, and she remains a bargaining chip in the Putin's game with the world. They wanted to remind the Russian citizens about her," said Igor Stenin, a participant of the action in support of Nadezhda Savchenko.

The participants of the action have called for "ending the war with Ukraine and forcing hatred between the brotherly Slavic peoples." Besides, the activists offered to send letters addressed to Nadezhda Savchenko to detention facility and to help disseminating the information about her.

The action lasted for about half an hour and ended without incidents.
