Advocates of figurants in case of "Million Mask March" file appeal to ECtHR

Two advocates will represent the interests of Shant Arutyunyan, the leader of the "Tsegakron" Party, and other convicts in the case of the "Million Mask March".

The "Million Mask March", during which protesters clashed with policemen, took place on November 5, 2013, in Yerevan. On October 17, 2014, the first instance court found 14 participants of the rally guilty of hooliganism and sentenced them to different terms in prison. The organizer of the march Shant Arutyunyan was sentenced to six years in prison; and his 15-year-old son received four years of conditional custody.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 2, the Armenian Court of Appeal upheld the verdict in the case of the "Million Mask March". The advocates filed a complaint to the Armenian Court of Cassation, which refused to accept the case for consideration. In May, the defence of Shant Arutyunyan, who was sentenced to six years of imprisonment in the case, decided to challenge the guilty verdict at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

Today, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by advocate Inessa Petrosyan that the appeal against the Armenian court's decision in the case of the "Million Mask March" is filed to the European Court of Human Rights.

Advocate Inessa Petrosyan represents the interests of almost all the defendants in the case. The interests of convict Armen Ovannisyan are represented by advocate Ara Zakaryan.
