Residents of Astrakhan complain about mass extermination of stray dogs

Residents of Astrakhan have reported ill-treatment of stray animals in the territory of the city. In early September, in the district "South-East-2" several dogs got poisoned. The prosecutor's office recommends lodging respective applications to them.

Several dying stray animals were found in the "South-East-2" on September 3. According to locals, dog-hunters also killed pets, which had owners.

Locals state that they are preparing an application to the prosecutor's office.

On September 4, Alexander Petrov, the Public Prosecutor of Astrakhan, said that he had received no complaints about the actions of dog-hunters; however, his office was ready to consider them.

"People, who try to regulate the population of stray animals in such an inhumane way, may face punishment of up to two years in prison. For this, residents of Astrakhan need to file a respective application to the prosecutor's office," he said, adding that the city is being insufficient in addressing the problem of stray animals. According to his story, they already passed a presentation to the head of the administration of Astrakhan demanding to eliminate the violations.
