GPO questions author of materials about protests in Mingachevir

In Azerbaijan, journalist Sevinc Vagifgyzy was questioned at the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) in the country in connection with her covering the protest action in the city of Mingachevir. According to the journalist, investigators were also interested in the activities of the "Meydan TV" online TV Channel.

On August 22, the city of Mingachevir hosted a protest action held in connection with the death of 27-year-old local resident Bakhruz Gadjiev at the police station on August 20. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan, during the interrogation, he suddenly jumped out of the window. On August 22, the protesters claimed that Bakhruz Gadjiev died as a result of torture. The protest action was dispersed by the police, and 21 persons were detained. Following the administrative procedure, 16 persons were arrested.

On September 1, Sevinc Vagifgyzy was summoned to the Investigating Department for Serious Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan. The journalist was questioned.

"I was told that I had been called to the General Prosecutor's Office in connection with the events in Mingachevir and the protest action held there. They began to ask me when I arrived in Mingachevir and who posted on the Internet the videos that supposedly contained the 'investigation secret'," Sevinc Vagifgyzy told the" Caucasian Knot".

"My videos did not contain anything that would violate the secrecy of the investigation. The videos were made in public places," the journalist has noted.

Further, according to her, the investigator changed the subject of the questioning and turned to the activities of the "Meydan TV" online TV Channel.

According to Sevinc Vagifgyzy, she was not informed about the possibility of her summoning for re-questioning.
