Sochi residents open monument to corruption in place of demolished house
About 30 Sochi residents came to the opening of the monument to corruption, which was built by the spouses Lyubov Berchanova and Vasily Zhuravlyov in the place of their house, demolished in 2013 in fulfilment of the court judgement.
The idea to create such a monument appeared after the demolition of their only housing, where the couple had lived for about 30 years, Vasily Zhuravlyov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on July 20 at the opening of the monument.
According to Lyubov Berchanova, she and her husband decided to reinforce the walls of the old house of pre-war built, located on the land plot, they bought in 1986 in Ordynka village. However, their neighbour Titov did not like the reconstruction of the house, initiated by the spouses. He complained to the Mayoralty; and the latter went to the court demanding to demolish the house, explaining the demand by the fact that the house of Berchanova and Zhuravlyov prevented Titov from using his house and land plot.
In winter of 2013, by the court judgement, the house was demolished.
"After his grave illness, my husband found some strange boulders in the place of our house and began building a monument to corruption, because whoever we had addressed, we saw no reaction," said Lyubov Berchanova.
