Court in Krasnodar cancels verdict to Demerchyan and returns case to prosecutor

Today, the Krasnodar Territorial Court has upheld the appeal complaint lodged by the builder Mardiros Demerchyan against his conviction and returned the case to the Sochi Prosecutor's Office.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mardiros Demerchyan, a builder of the objects of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, was accused of a false denunciation of policemen. He refused to plead guilty. On December 17, 2014, the Adler District Court of Sochi sentenced Demerchyan to public works.

"I don't even dare to suggest what there may be, but I want to believe in justice and legality. The very fact of revocation and return of the case not to the court for retrial, but to the prosecutor's office, says a lot," the advocate Alexander Popkov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mardiros Demerchyan himself hopes that justice will prevail in the end and those who had tortured him and fabricated a case on false accusation will be duly punished by the law.
