Envoy to NCFD: IS recruits fighters from educational institutions of Northern Caucasus

Members of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) are recruiting students of North-Caucasian higher educational institutions. This was reported by Sergey Melikov, the Russian President's Envoy to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).

"We get information on the detection of recruiters of the so-called 'Islamic State' (IS) in our higher educational institutions," said Sergey Melikov at the council meeting with the leaders of the republics.

In this regard, Sergey Melikov suggested the administrations of educational institutions and authorities to pay "attention to extra-curricular activities of students" and their patriotic education, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Various sources, including the Russian FSB, have confirmed that militants from Russia are fighting for the "Islamic State", says the document prepared by the "Caucasian Knot": "Caucasians in the ranks of IS (ISIL)".

According to Sergey Melikov, the level of education of today's radicals and members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) increases. So, he has added that members of the IAFs are often students and graduates of prestigious colleges and universities, the "Interfax" reports.

The names of the higher educational institutions, where, according to Sergey Melikov, members of the IS recruit fighters, are not reported.
