Sochi resident accused of treason reports on abuses in SIZO

In his letters to relatives, Pyotr Parpulov, a resident of Sochi, accused of treason, has reported the violation of his rights at the SIZO (pre-trial prison). According to Pyotr Parpulov's daughter, her father has described his complaint about the living conditions and medical care.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in March 2014, the law enforcement agencies of Sochi detained Pyotr Parpulov, a former air controller of the Sochi airport, on suspicion of treason. According to advocate Oleg Eliseev, the man suspected of treason is in critical condition. Following the visit to the SIZO of members of the Krasnodar Regional Monitoring Commission (PMC), it was decided that Pyotr Parpulov is to undergo a planned surgery. According to the PMC, the defendant is being kept at a double cell, and he did not express any complaints.

Pyotr Parpulov wrote about 50 letters to his family members. In his letters, he points to the violation of his rights at the SIZO, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Yuliya Parpulova.

"My father is not provided with human living conditions and medical care at the SIZO. He asks us to buy him not only medicines, but even a folding-bed, since he has to use a broken bed. All of us doubt that the members of the PMC saw the real conditions my father faces at the SIZO," Yuliya Parpulova has said.

The family members are not aware of the reason why Pyotr Parpulov did not report to the members of the PMC on all his complaints about the conditions at the SIZO, of that he informed his advocate and of that he wrote in his letters addressed home.
