Resident of Chegem District convicted for financing militants
A court in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has sentenced Jamal Uyanaev, a resident of the Chegem District, to 3 years and 9 months in prison on charges of aiding and funding militants.
According to the spokesman of the Operative Headquarters in the KBR, Jamal Uyanaev helped members of the unit of the "Imarat Kavkaz", which is recognized a terrorist organization in Russia and whose activities in the territory of Russia is banned by the court.
"Starting 2011, Jamal Uyanaev provided financial support to the members of the so-called 'Vilayat of Kabarda, Balkaria and Karachay', a structural unit of 'Imarat Kavkaz'. In particular, he gave out a total amount of more than one million roubles to the members of the unit," a source from the Operative Headquarters in the KBR told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to the source, in the course of inspecting Uyanaev's household, they "found and confiscated firearms, ammunition and components for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs)."
