Hassan Zakayev, native of Chechnya, suspected of aiding organizers of Dubrovka terror act in Moscow

Hassan Zakayev, who is now in custody in Moscow on suspicion of involvement in the capture of the Dubrovka Theatrical Centre on October 23, 2002, is suspected of aiding the militants who carried out the above act. He was detained while trying to enter the Crimea from Ukraine, says the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

In the context of Hassan Zakayev's detention, investigators have resumed the criminal investigation into the terror act during the musical "Nord-Ost"; the suspect is currently held in SIZO (pre-trial prison) "Lefortovo". The Presnya District Court of Moscow has defined his detention up to February 18, 2015.

Zakayev is charged with being a member of the organized criminal grouping headed by Shamil Basayev. According to investigators, it was Zakayev who organized transportation to Moscow of the weapons and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were used during the capture of the "Nord-Ost".

According to the website of the ICRF, six accomplices of the terror act were sentenced to long prison terms; 40 terrorists were killed during the storm; raid, and one more suspect of complicity in the crime Gerikhan Dudayev is still on the international wanted list.

Zakayev's advocate Suleiman Ibragimov treats the arrest of his client as unjustified.
