Fire in the office of the Committee against Torture in Grozny

The ignition that occurred in the residential building in Grozny, where the office of the Joint Mobile Group of the Committee against Torture (CaT) is located, is liquidated, said the Chechen Ministry for Emergencies (MfE); nobody suffered.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on Saturday, December 13, an ignition occurred in the apartment housing the office of the Mobile Group in Grozny of the CaT. According to the Committee, the fire affected the neighbouring apartments. The office staff expressed concern about the fate of the children living there and stated that the fire was caused by arson.

The MfE of Chechnya has confirmed that the fire burst out in an apartment in a house in Rosa Luxemburg Street on the second level. Eight persons were rescued, said an MfE source.

Earlier, employees of the CaT reported that they were persecuted by unknown persons, and that they were afraid for their lives when returning home.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Igor Kalyapin, the head of the CaT applied to the bosses of the Prosecutor's Office and the ICRF demanding to check Ramzan Kadyrov's introduction of the principle of collective responsibility for the families of members of the armed underground for compliance with the laws of the Russian Federation. After that Kadyrov stated the need to check a man named Kalyapin for his involvement in organizing the attack on Grozny on December 4.
