Attack on Grozny was fifth major attack on North-Caucasian dwelling settlements since 2004

The large militants' attack undertaken last night on law enforcers in Grozny, during which, according to latest figures, 19 people were killed and 28 others wounded, was the fifth attack on dwelling settlements of Northern Caucasus and since 2004, the second one on the capital of Chechnya.

Attack on Grozny in 2014: 9 killed militants; 10 lost power agents and one civilian

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on December 4, at the House of Press in Grozny, when policemen tried to stop a car with alleged members of the armed underground inside, the latter opened fire and killed the policemen. The attackers took refuge and were blocked in the House of Press. After that, the city centre was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. Several other militants were found and blocked in School No. 20 of Grozny.

In the morning today, the authorities reported the murder of all the militants, who were in the House of Press. As a result of the fight, 10 law enforcers were killed and 28 others were wounded.

The body of a civilian, who occurred to be the chairman of the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Chechnya, was found under the ruins of the House of Press.

The today's armed clashes in Grozny became the third major action of the armed underground in Chechnya in 2014 and the fifth large-scale attack on dwelling settlements of Northern Caucasus during the last 10.5 years. Attack on Tsentoroi: 12 dead militants and 6 killed power agents

On August 29, 2010, according to the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, near the village of Tsentoroi, power agents killed 12 suspected militants. According to law enforcement sources, six policemen were lost, 18 other policemen and seven local residents were wounded. The killed militants had remotely control explosive devices on their bodies. Seven of them managed to trigger them after they were wounded, said the spokesman of the Investigating Committee under the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya.

Attack on Nalchik: 95 killed militants and 35 lost power agents

On October 13, 2005, an armed attack was undertaken on Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR). According to the Internet websites that support Chechen separatists, in total, 217 militants took part in the attack on Nalchik. According to the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of the Russian Federation, the number of attackers on the city was at least 250.

The attack resulted in 35 lost power agents and 15 killed civilians; besides, 129 power agents and 66 civilians were wounded. According to Russian law enforcement bodies, 95 attackers were killed during the attack on Nalchik.

Attack on Grozny in 2004: 54 killed power agents and 12 lost civilians

At night on August 22, 2004, a regiment of militants of up to 400 strong attacked Grozny. The militants attacked power agents' posts, captured schools and houses of culture; there is evidence that they were shootout peaceful residents. Their armed groups then left the city themselves; while federal troops did not pursue the retracting militants, the HRC "Memorial" reported.

In one night, 66 people were killed: 54 power agents and 12 civilians.

Attack on Nazran: 98 casualties, including 27 civilians

At night on June 22, 2004, a group of militants undertook an armed attack on the cities of Nazran and Karabulak, and on the village of Ordjonikidzevskaya. They attacked the objects of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Frontier Troops, Ministry of Defence and the Prosecutor's Office. In Nazran, the fight near the MIA building lasted for a few hours. In Karabulak, militants targeted on warehouses with firearms and the Ingush OMON (riot police) base. By morning, the internal troops took control over the situation in Nazran and other republic's dwelling settlements. Militants retreated in the direction of Chechnya.

According to the republic's government, in the course of street fighting, 98 people perished and 104 others were wounded (including 27 killed and 38 wounded civilians).
