Azerbaijan: blogger Mekhman Guseinov released after three hours in police custody

In the morning on July 7, Mekhman Guseinov, 25, a blogger and an employee of the Institute of Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) of Azerbaijan, was detained and taken to Nasimi district police of Baku and was released three hours later, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

At the Nasimi police station, the blogger was informed that a complaint had been received against him from the owner of some grocery store located in the territory of the Nasimi District.

"The complaint said that on April 11 this year I allegedly came to this store to prepare a report about bars and demanded from the store employees to confirm that these bars are actually brothels controlled by the boss of the Nasimi District Police," said Guseinov, treating these statements as "slander."

"The fact that I allegedly visited some store is an absolute fiction; and it's very easy to prove it," Guseinov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The blogger believes that this is the way to exert pressure on him because of his activities in social networks.
