On May 1, about 30 young people attempted to hold an action on the occasion of the International Workers' Day in Fountain Square in downtown Baku. However, the police, saying that the action was not sanctioned prevented it. As a result, four demonstrators were detained.
One of the participants said in the interview to the Obyektiv TV Channel, that he is a member of the "Left-Wing Front", and the action is carried out with a demand to protect workers' rights and restore May 1 as a holiday day-off.
On the same day, a group of leftist activists held a sanctioned action near the monument to the worker in the industrial zone "Black City" at the refinery "Azneftyag". The rally was organized by the Communist Party of Azerbaijan and passed without police intervention.
