Residents of Untsukul District demand to compensate flooded land plots till March 20

Residents of the Untsukul District of Dagestan, who demand to accelerate the payment of compensations for their households flooded after filling in the reservoir of the flooded Irganai HPP, held a rally, where they decided to stage a large-scale protest, if their demands are not met within 15 days.

The Irganai HPP is the second in power in Northern Caucasus. Its construction began in 1980s and ended in 2008; after its commissioning, gardens of local residents with the harvest, their houses and farmland occurred under water. Residents of flooded villages held repeated actions claiming due compensations.

The rally was held on March 5. Activists said that they had planned holding a big event with over a thousand participants; and it was coordinated with the district authorities, but on the eve of the event officials of the local FSB and prosecutor's office held talks with them and explained that the big event was not worth holding.

    Law enforcers have conducted a search of the home of Tatiana Polivanova, an activist, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with a fraud case with land plots of the Sochi National Park. The Polivanova's organization provided legal assistance to dozens of gardeners whose plots were seized by the court within this case.
