Flooding in Sochi caused by violations committed during construction of Olympic facilities, city residents assert

In the territory of Sochi, rains will not stop till the end of September 25. This was reported by the Southern Regional Centre of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE). Residents of Sochi believe that the emergency situation in the city was caused by the lack of control over the construction sites.

On September 24, in the Lazarevskoe District of Sochi, residents of 59 buildings were forced to flee their homes, since the Loo River overflew its banks. As a result of heavy rains, the water level has exceeded the critical rate.

The city residents state that during the construction of Olympic facilities, the drainage system was destroyed and that the very Olympic facilities were not equipped with drainage systems.

In particular, the reconstructed streets and roads of Khosta and Kudepsta were flooded after the rain. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Igor Vasiliev, Chairman of the territorial self-administration unit (known as TOS) "Kudepsta".

During rains, roads and sidewalks represent a danger to pedestrians. This was stated by Elena Romanova, the mother of an infant, who went to the polyclinic on that day.
