The people detained during disturbances in Ismailly complain of cruel treatment

Local residents detained during disturbances in the town of Ismailly, Azerbaijan, underwent beating in the police, townsmen Turalu Umudly and Rahim Faktiev declared. The Ministry of Interior Affairs denies the information of using violence against the detainees.

At night of January, 24, disturbances with the participation of about two thousand people took place in Ismailly. According to the police, the disturbances started with the participation of an employee of the hotel. According to executive power of the district, 32 persons were detained during the protest actions, however observers reported no less than 150 detainees.

The situation in Ismailly stabilized but the town is still under the control of police forces and a fast response regiment of the Ministry of Interior Affairs who put important strategic objects under observation. Besides, law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan still provide no information of the number of people detained and their fate, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.

“They dragged me beating to the district police department. They beat me up with rubber clubs, fists and kicks saying: “Now you will know how to behave”, Turalu Umudly fined to 400 manats (about 510 dollars) told his story.

Another resident of Ismailly Rahim Faktiev was detained near his house. “They were beating me up there but they were not local but alien policemen. They released me late in the evening. My chest still hurts”, Faktiev said.
