Human rights activists report the investigation’s negligence concerning kidnapping and torture to a resident of Dagestan

Resident of Derbent Alibek Mirzehanov who reported his kidnapping and torture by the personnel of law enforcement bodies fears for his life and does not spend the nights at home. For three weeks investigative bodies and Public Prosecutor’s office have ignored his statement, “Memorial” human rights center reports.

Alibek Mirzehanov reported kidnapping and torture by the personnel of law enforcement bodies on February, 2, by means of a video message to Mayor of Derbent, Head of Chief Department of Interior Affairs of Dagestan and the President of Russia.

“Alibek does not spend the nights at home or come out alone out of fear for his live. However, no steps for investigation of kidnapping and torture to Alibek Mirzehanov have been taken until the present moment”, today’s report of “Memorial” human rights center received by the “Caucasian Knot” runs.

According to the human rights activists, on February, 20, 2013, a video message recorded on August, 30, 2012, at the moment of the first abduction, was placed on YouTube in which Mirzehanov evidences on the criminal case against Farid Zamanov. However, already on February, 25, access to the video was limited. There were gross violations during Mirzehanov’s interrogation: his parents were not invited to be present (Mirzehanov was under 18 at the moment of interrogation – note by the “Caucasian Knot”), there was no attorney, the rights of the witness were not read out, human rights activists emphasize.

At the same time, a video of Alibek Mirzehanov’s evidence he gave already during the second abduction, on February, 2, the human activists suppose, was posted on YouTube. “One could see traces of using torture during interrogation there as well as Mirzehanov’s using an outline prepared by him while “giving evidence”, “Memorial’s” report runs.

The “Caucasian Knot” has yet no comment from Chief Department of Interior Affairs of Derbent, Press Service of Head of Dagestan, the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Dagestan or Public Prosecutor’ office of the republic.
