Grozny to open National Library
The National Library will be opened in the Chechen capital in the near future, the administration of Grozny reports.
The new building of the library was erected in the city centre, close to the republic's Theatre Concert Hall and the National Museum, which was opened a few months ago.
The Ministry of Culture of Chechnya has reported that the library fund of the republic was almost completely destroyed in the course of the two military campaigns that hit Chechnya: "Before the warfare, the library fund of the republic counted several million books. Only the Chekhov Library had more than 2.5 million books. Currently, all the republic's libraries have only about 1.5 million books. We suffered enormous damage; and much was lost forever."
