HRC "Memorial" to send request to Prosecutor's Office about Makhach Gamzatov's fate

Gadjimurad Gamzatov appealed to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" with a request to assist in the search for and protection of the rights of his brother Makhach. On May 15, at the request of the brother of Makhach Gamzatov, the appeal will be sent to the Republic's Prosecutor's Office. This was reported by Elena Denisenko, the representative of the HRC "Memorial" in Dagestan.

Today, relatives of Makhach Gamzatov hired Murad Magomedov, an advocate of the Advocates' Chamber "Kavkaz" to represent interests of Makhach Gamzatov. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Gadjimurad Magomedov, the detainee's brother.

According to his story, today, he together with the advocate found out that Makhach Gamzatov was really kept at the IVS (temporary detention facility) of Makhachkala. However, the information on detaining of Makhach Gamzatov at the IVS has not been officially acknowledged to the detainee's brother.

"We were in the yard of the IVS when Makhach Gamzatov was brought into a car and taken away to conduct the investigatory activities. Thus, at present, we know for sure that Makhach was detained by power bodies. However, we cannot understand why they hide him from his advocate. Murad Magomedov has all the documents at his hands, and he still may not visit his client," Gadjimurad Gamzatov said.

Murad Magomedov, the advocate of Makhach Gamzatov, believes that the investigatory actions are likely being carried out with his client.

In the evening of May 13, the brother of Makhach Gamzatov appealed to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" with the request to assist in the search for his brother. Gadjimurad Gamzatov asks the human rights defenders to find Makhach Gamzatov and "to restore the violated rights of Makhach Batyrbekovich Gamzatov and to help stop unlawful prosecution of him."

In his appeal to the human rights defenders, Gadjimurad Gamzatov has mentioned that a policeman on duty of the ROVD (District Interior Division) of the Lenin District of the city of Makhachkala refused to accept the complaint about the kidnapping.

Meanwhile, today, it became known that in Buynaksk, on May 13, at about 10:00 p.m. Moscow time, Shamil Magomedov, the brother of Sharif Magomedov, who disappeared on May 12, was released after interrogations from the city police station.

Sharif Magomedov is the best friend of Makhach Gamzatov. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Zarema Bagautdinova, a representative of the Dagestani regional public organization (DRPO) "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy) in the city of Buynaksk.

"Till present, we have no information about Sharif Magomedov," Zarema Bagautdinova has stated.

According to her information, relatives of Sharif Magomedov did not contact the police, since they "still hope that he could come back by himself."

A representative of the unit on duty of the GOVD (City Interior Division) of the city of Buynaksk refused to comment to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on the information of the DRPO "Pravozaschita" about the detention of Shamil Magomedov.
